Fall Break

Justin and I were able to spend some extra time together this week. It was Fall Break on Monday and Tuesday so we decided to go Camping. Well, it was a little more $$ then we thought so we creatively improvised. It was tons of fun, cheaper, and a nice change of pace.

We started Monday afternoon with a nature walk. We saw a Pumpkin Patch, Grape Vineyard, a little river, and we also did some bird watching. It was a nice long walk with nature (about 2 hours). Needless to say we were pretty tired when we got home, but there was still more adventures ahead, no tired or achy body was stopping us.
After we caught our breath we headed to the store for some veggies for dinner.......

We made some Tin Foil Dinners. Hamburger, Onions, Bell Peppers, Zucchini, Squash, Potatoes, Butter, and some salt and pepper = DELICIOUS

Next on our adventure... setting up the tent. That's right it's in our Living Room, which can I say I am a personal fan of.... you will see.

Justin and I set it up while our dinner was cooking.

Our dinner was really good, a little over cooked but tasty non the less. Then after dinner we thought to ourselves, "What is camping without roasted marshmallows." And so we did it...... over our gas stove. (One of the very few perks of gas)

Justin's Marshmallows some how turned out better then mine every time. So he just started making mine too. Thanks Honey they were out of this world!!

You might be thinking what else will these two crazies come up with. Well, we have been watching the Fantastic ABC's show "Lost" from the beginning of this school year, and camping wasn't going to stop us from one of our favorite pass times.

So we watched half an episode in our tent. My hips were starting to kill me so we moved to the couch to finish out our "Lost" watching. (see why I love camping in the Living Room so much)

When we woke up from a nice and cozy nights sleep in our warm, big, and very comfy bed we got up and make some omelets. This was a recipe that Grandmommy Donnie and Grandpa Gene sent us, we thought this was the perfect time to try it out.

Here is the recipe.....
ZIPLOC OMELET

(This works great!!! Good for when all your family is together. The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet!!!) Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.

Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.

Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc. Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and mix well. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes [we did 15 minutes].

You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.

Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.

Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and a great conversation piece.

Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in boiling water while you get ready. And in 15 minutes, you've got a nice omelet for a quick breakfast!!!

This is how ours turned out.......

Once we were well feed, well rested, and had a nice hot shower we headed out for some more nature and lunch. The best BBQ here is Williamsburg is Pierce's BBQ. We both left there feeling very satisfied.

There is a great park here called Waller Mill Park. (Sorry no pictures)

We took a little canoe ride (only $5) on the Waller Mill Reservoir. It was a beautiful day. It was about 75 degrees with a nice breeze and sunshine. We couldn't have asked for a better day!!!!!!

  2. When I first read that you went camping - I was shocked at how you could do that when you are so pregnant. I like your way much better! Our girls go "camping" at our house every once in a while. We even do smores on the grill in the backyard.
Thanks for the ziploc recipe - we will have to try that one out!
